Why Did I Choose to do Taxes?

Often times when I'm with my clients, the famous question is, "What got you into doing taxes?"

I've been preparing taxes professionally since 2009 straight out of high school. Every year when my parents would file their taxes, I would go to the CPA's office with them. One year, I came to the office with a few questions of my own and expressed an interest in learning more about taxes. I brought a few materials home from the appointment, and wrote a book report for my senior year in high school. That summer, I took a 3 month tax course and began my journey of tax preparation on January 2, 2009.

My main reason for doing taxes is because it allows me to work one and one with people. I've developed great relationships with many of my clients over the years and have even had clients since my very first year that have stuck with me from 2009 until now! I've seen some through high school, college, buying their first home, having their first baby, and so many other great experiences. Math has always been second nature for me.. To be honest, doing taxes is just the basic math, the harder part would be remembering all the different tax rules and staying up to date with new laws - which means lots of research. Research is something I enjoy, not for the experience, but to be able to provide my clients with legal and effective ways of saving themselves the most possible. The flexibility of being able to work long hours for the first 4 months of the year is an added bonus that allows me to be involved in my church and other activities that many other occupations would not allow.

We all love to do things that we are passionate about because then it will never really feel like work. I can honestly say that I enjoy the work that I do and it hasn't changed since the day I started!
